Women over 40 need there protein, a women’s muscle building components are not as responsive to the food they digest compared with men of similar age. What this means is women as they age need more protein in there diets.

British and U.S. researchers have discovered that men’s ability to generate muscle protein increased after they had a liquid meal, but the same was not true of women over 40.

We know that as we age we lose muscle, this loss can cause frailty, disabilities and various diseases, with older women being at greater risk of problems because they have less muscle to start with then men do. Protein should be taken whether you work out or not.

The news about older women needing more protein suggest that women over 40, in particular, should be sure to eat enough protein, good sources of protein include foods like eggs, fish and lean meat such as steak, a protein shake can also serve you well.

What is Spinning?

Spinning is an aerobic exercise that focuses on developing and increasing cardiovascular fitness. Workouts take place in a small group setting ranging from ten to 20 people at a fitness or workout center lead by a specially trained spinning instructor. Spinning classes utilize a specially designed stationary bicycle called a spinning bike. Unlike regular stationary bikes at the gym, spinning bikes are made of stronger materials designed to withstand intense spinning workouts with varying resistance levels.

Spinning class is a fantastic place to build up your aerobic endurance. Your first Spinning class may seem impossibly hard, but you’ll notice that over time classes become more manageable. Here are some tips for building up your endurance in Spinning class.

Start slowly. Building up endurance requires slow and steady progress so don’t expect too much, too soon. Be consistent with your Spinning. Endurance is something that requires dedicated training. You can’t just attend classes here and there, you need a dedicated schedule to truly improve your stamina.

Spinning can give you a great full-body workout, especially throughout the muscles in your legs and buttocks.

3 Herbs To Help Prevent Menopause

There are many alternative treatments for helping to reduce the side affects of menopause for many women including these top 3 herbs used during menopause. If you are one of the many women who have hit this life phase, you may benefit from the use of some herbs that are generally helpful and have no significant negative side affects. Black Cohosh, Ginseng, and Dong Quai are 3 of the most often used herbs by women experiencing menopause.

Black Cohosh   A phytoestrogen, Black Cohosh helps to relieve hot flashes by providing some natural estrogen that soothes the body systems as it dumps the already existing estrogen from the body during menopause. This herb helps to normalize the body systems during this phase and provides a better sense of well being. It should be taken over the course of 3 or 4 weeks before you see real benefits of it because it has to be built up in the body for proper benefit. Suggested dosage: Take 20 milligrams to 60 milligrams, 3 times a day everyday for a month to see results.

Ginseng   Ginseng is known for its general revitalization function for the body. It is used for better immune function, mental alertness, health problems such as diabetes as well as other health issues. However, those who have illnesses such as cancer, uterine fibroids and other issues should not take Ginseng since it is also a natural estrogen enhancement herb. Suggested dosage: Take 100 milligrams to 500 milligrams, 3 times a day.

Dong Quai   This herb is considered the “female” Ginseng because it tends to balance the female hormone system when taken correctly. It has traditionally been used by menopausal women, for those experiencing PMS, as a tonic after childbirth, for fibrocystic disease, headaches, constipation, anemia and any number of health complaints especially attributed to females.

There are some side effects to watch for such as menstrual bleeding or abdominal bloating. Also, if you have cancer or are pregnant, you should not take Dong Quai as it is also a phytoestrogen. Suggested dosage: Take 500 milligrams to 1000 milligrams, 2 or 3 times a day.

You may either take each herb separately or there are several menopausal treatment capsules on the market that contain the correct amounts of each of these herbs. For more information, consult your natural healthcare provider or health food store associate.

Caffeine Causes Miscarriages Pregnancy And Fitness

I know that women that are pregnant want to protect the baby, and allow themselves to have a pregnancy free of complications, so this article is raises my concerns of consuming energy drinks during pregnancy. Most energy drinks are powered by caffeine, and caffeine can kill.

Caffeine can cause women to have miscarriages, if you are pregnant beware that caffeine is not your friend, according to a new study that appeared in the March issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Women that take in and consume too much caffeine greatly increase there risk of miscarriage. It also goes on to say, that no prior history of miscarriage need be present for caffeine to harm your baby.

Researchers found women who consumed caffeine of more than 200 milligrams (mg) per day while pregnant raised there risk of a miscarriage compared with women who had little to no caffeine intake .

No caffeine is good for you, not energy drinks, not coffee,  not chocolate, tea, or even soda . If you are pregnant and consume more than 200 mg per day, your birth is at  risk. How much caffeine is 200 mg ?  Roughly 10 ounces of coffee equals 200 mg. And 1 red bull is too many.

Protein Called AFP May Prevent Breast Cancer

New studys show that pregnancy protects against breast cancer, and the discovery may lead to a new way to treat the breast cancer. Researchers from the University of Albany have proved the pregnancy protein alpha-fetoprotein (referred to as AFP) slowed down the growth of breast cancer in rats exposed to pregnancy hormones. Often, there are no symptoms of breast cancer, but signs of breast cancer can include a breast lump or an abnormal mammogram, please get tested asap if you haven’t done so, breast cancer kills millions of women each year. Most women know to check for lumps, but redness and thickening of the skin on the breast, could also indicate a very rare but aggressive form of breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer.

Research also shows that women who get Pregnant, before the age of 30, lower there risk for developing breast cancer, and having more than one child is also good for preventing breast cancer.

What we know is alpha fetoprotein is made by the women’s fetus, and doctors can take measurements of the protein during a women’s pregnancy to screen for birth defects. Hormones in pregnancy, such as estrogen, all induce alpha-fetoprotein AFP, which directly inhibits the growth of breast cancer in women.

WHY DOCTORS DONT GET THE FLU SHOT- ARE THEY SAFE ?

November 2, 2009 by

Do you know whats in that Flu shot and are Flu shots safe? I was reading that 70% of doctors don’t even get the Flu shot themselves, maybe they know whats in them. Take a look at some of the ingredients found in the common flu shot —Mercury, Formaldehyde,  Aluminum, Triton X-100, Polysorbate 80, Carbolic Acid. I don’t know about you but I don’t want any of that stuff within 10 feet of my children. I hear people say they didn’t have the Flu until they got the Flu shot, does the Flu shot cause the Flu? The doctors say you cannot get the flu from a flu shot. But the side efffects are: Soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given Fever and Body Aches, sure sounds like the Flu to me.

Im not looking to bash the Flu shot I just wanted to know is the Flu shot safe and can they harm my kids, and the more I read about it the more I need to look into it. I did find out who shouldn’t get the Flu shot, people allergic to chicken eggs, young children under the age of 6 months and anyone with a fever or that is not feeling well at the time of the shot. All the Swine Flu talk scares me but are there any Home Remedies for the Flu? Vitamin C, Zinc lozenges, boost the immune system, Colloidal silver kills viruses. Garlic capsules will help decrease the growth of the Flu virus as well. There are many Home Remedies that can help you avoid the Flu and I think I’ll try them all. Because in my opinion Flu shots scare me and I don’t know how safe they really are.
