CASEIN PROTEIN V.S WHEY PROTEIN WHICH ONE IS BEST

Many people ask me all the time which is better whey protein or casein protein? So I decided to try and clear up this great fitness debate. In the end you’ll have to make the final decision but the following article should help shed some light on your protein choice. 

Casein Protein takes longer to digest meaning that amino acids take longer to reach your system. If your lactose intolerant stay away from Casein Protein you may get gas from Casein Protein, and Casein Protein may cause bloating. The high sodium content in Casein Protein can cause bloating as well. Casein Protein is a very high source of milk protein usually around 80%. Casein Protein constitutes 80 percent of milk protein. Casein Protein is an excellent source of amino acids, it has as stated earlier a slow digestion rate, and a high anti-catabolic effect. Casein Protein should be taken with meals and can be combined with other protein powders. Casein Protein is also best taken at bedtime.

Whey Protein is around 20% milk as opposed to the 80% milk protein you’ll get with Casein Protein. Whey Protein is rich in vitamins and amino acids. Whey protein isolate is the purest form of whey protein on the market. It contains 90 percent or more protein and has very low traces of fat and lactose. Whey protein concentrate has anywhere between 25 and 90 % protein depending protein product you try. A good thing to remember is when the protein level in whey protein concentrate gets lower, the amounts of fat and lactose get higher.

So which is better Whey Protein or Casein Protein? As I just wrote both proteins have there pros and cons, A study has shown that people who used whey protein V.S casein protein after exercise resulted in similar increases (no major differences) in muscle protein despite different patterns of blood amino acid responses. I would say if you are lactose intolerant use casein protein if not stick with whey proteins, both work well when combined with consistent workouts. And remember proteins take time to work so stick with what ever source of protein you decide to use. Nothing happens over night but protein powders work and should be apart of your daily diet.
