What is a slow metabolism, many people ask me about speeding up or slowing down there metabolism in order to gain or lose more weight. Simply put metabolism converts calories in to usable energy. The rate that your body converts these calories is your metabolism, so if you have a fast metabolism putting on weight may be hard and a slow metabolism will cause you trouble when your trying to lose weight. If your body does not convert these calories it will be stored as fat thus you will gain weight.

But the reason your not losing weight when you get older as quickly as in your youth is due to the fact that you may not have as much muscle. Let me explain, muscle burns calories faster than fat does so the less muscle you have the less calories you’ll burn. So even though our metabolism does slow down when we get older it is not always the reason losing weight gets harder. You must exercise to lose weight. This will speed up your metabolism add muscle thus help your lose weight faster.

If you want to speed up your metabolism start a aerobic exercise program. Try and do at least 30 minutes of some form of aerobic exercise at least 3 days a week. The aerobics will  burn more calories and have a  greater effect on your metabolic rate.  Start weight training, unlike aerobic exercise, with weight training your metabolism stays elevated for many hours after you finish your working out. Not only that, but with bigger muscles, you will burn more calories through the course of a  day. That is an actual speeding up of your metabolism. So the point I’m trying to make is we can help control our metabolism but we must exercise. I hope this article helps explain how your metabolism plays a part in your weight gain and weight loss issues.
